How can small businesses compete with corporate Giants?

If you’re a small business owner, how do you compete with big businesses on price? You Don’t! Let’s face, Walmart is a super giant retailer of consumer goods.

Their secret.. volume buying, where they can get unbelievable wholesale discounts and pass on this savings to the consumer, while still making a hefty profit.

And now this holiday season, Walmart has turned it up, by offering a price match guarantee, which may threaten the retail business of  a small business owner. [Continue reading...]

I didn’t agree to that

Building your database and mailing list can be an exhaustive, yet necessary project for a growing business, but it must be done the right way! You must get permission before adding someone to your mailing list!

I’m writing this after receiving a sales promotion from a business owner that wanted more info on an event I was hosting. Last week, Business Owner emailed me, and said, “Send me more details.” So I did. Never heard back… But this week, I’m receiving her Holiday Promotion Newsletter. She had added me to her mailing list! Without permission! Crazy part: If she had just sent an email saying, “Hey can I send you an email about some holiday promotions I’m having?” I would have said, “Sure.” I get  a few hundred emails a week, so people emailing me isn’t a problem.

But, now I just feel violated! Had this Business Owner contacted me just so she could obtain my email? Was she not really interested in my event? :( And as trivial as this may be,  it can have serious consequences; there are anti-spam laws that will get you & your business in trouble! Sure, it’s a longer process to get people’s permission, but that’s just the cost of being a business owner and operating ethically. So please, don’t just add peeps to your mailing list without permission

In the mean time, I guess I’ll have to get familiar with the unsubscribe link…
